Post-symposium Excursion

A post-symposium two-day excursion will be arranged immediately following the four days of meetings in Oslo. All participants at the symposium are encouraged to participate on the excursion. Those who were at the Third International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions, at Grindaheim in Valdres in 1990, will, however, have taken basically the same excursion twenty years ago. Others may not feel that they have the time or the finances for the excursion.

Saturday, 14 August
08:00 Leave Oslo by bus for Valdres
Visit during the day: Hedalen stave church, Slidre "cathedral", Einang stone, (lunch in Vestre Slidre), Lomen stave church, Høre stave church
By bus to hotel either on high mountain plateau or in Lærdal in Sogn (with dinner at Filefjellstuene).

Sunday, 15 August
08:00/08:30 By bus to Borgund stave church
Visit during the day: Borgund stave church, Vang stone, (lunch in Vang), perhaps Granavoll stone in Hadeland
Return to Oslo by 21:00
Departure on Monday 16 August

If there are sufficient participants that we have to hire two busses, and enough interest to leave from Gardermoen airport after 17:45, we will have one bus drive directly from the Vang stone to Gardermoen, arriving at 17:00. Early registration for the excursion will help the organising committee to determine the feasibility of such options.

Note: About 50 can be accommodated on one bus. After 50 have registered for the excursion, a waiting list will create. Around 75 will have to register for the excursion in order to make it feasible with two busses.

Price: At present NOK 2,000 for the excursion, NOK 1,600 for students
(An extra night in a hotel in Oslo will come in addition for those leaving on Monday.)

Please register for the excursion as soon as possible on the registration form.
