The Seventh International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions: "Runes in Context" Oslo, 2010

The Seventh International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions will be held in Oslo 9-14/16 August 2010. The meetings will take place at the old university buildings in the centre of Oslo, close to the Historical Museum which houses the Runic Archives.

The Museum of Cultural Histroy, University of Oslo, has main responsibility for organising the conference. The organising committe consists of James E. Knirk, Terje Spurkland, and K. Jonas Nordby. The theme of the conference is "Runes in Context", and eight plenary speakers have agreed to speak on various topics related to this theme. In addition som thirty papers will be discussed in two concurrent session, and various posters concerning research projects will be presented. The final programme will soon appear.

The programme will begin with a formal opening ceremony at 9 AM on Tuesday 10 August and conclude with a banquet on Friday evening 13 August. There will be several local excursions during the symposium to runic inscriptions in various museums in Oslo. An optional post-symposium excursion will be arranged to Valdres and Borgund stave church Saturday and Sunday 14-15 August.

The symposium registration fee has been kept as low as possible. At present (late registration), registratiohn costs NOK 1200 (which includes the banquet), with a reduced price for students of NOK 1000 (including banquet).
