Preliminary Announcement: The Seventh International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions, Oslo, 10-13/15 August 2010

Change of venue and invitation (UPDATED)

At the Sixth International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions in Lancaster 2005, Arend Quak of the University of Amsterdam invited runologists to the Netherlands in 2010 for the next meeting in the series. Due to serious health problems in 2007, Quak felt forced to abandon his plans to organise the conference. The international committee that advises the local organisers was requested to find a new venue for the meeting. The Runic Archives in Norway volunteered to take over the responsibility, and this suggestion was accepted by the committee.

The Runic Archives at the Museum of Cultural History, University of Oslo, will organise the Seventh International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions in Oslo in 2010. The symposium is scheduled for 10-13 August (with arrival on 9 august and departure on 14 August). A post-symposium excursion to runic inscriptions in Valdres and in Borgund stave-church will be arranged 14-15 August. The local organising committee is James E. Knirk, Terje Spurkland and K. Jonas Nordby.

An Internet site for the conference will soon be established, with a link from the Nytt om runer homepage. Additional information and detailed plans for the symposium will be made available during 2009, including forms for preliminary registration and procedures for the submission of papers.

The entire runological community is cordially invited to Oslo to the Seventh International Symposium on Runes and Runic Inscriptions in August 2010. Welcome!
