My research focuses on the presence of metal ions in the Oseberg artefacts, how they contribute to wood decay. This includes identification of metal species present in the objects and correlation with wood condition, with a particular focus on decomposition products of alum. Furthermore, I am looking into model experiments to assess interactions of wood and lignin with relevant metal compounds, and whether potential binding agents can inhibit any metal ion induced degradation.
