Archaeological conservation and wood science with particular emphasis on waterlogged wood from marine and wetland environments.
Angeliki’s current research with the Saving Oseberg project is focused around the re-conservation of alum-treated wood with non-aqueous materials and the development of an evaluation protocol for conservation treatments of archaeological wood.
Angeliki received her BSc in Archaeological Conservation from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece, in 2005. In 2006–2007 she worked at the Forest Research Institute of Athens for the development of a novel conservation treatment for waterlogged archaeological wood using silanol-terminated polydimethylsiloxane. In 2008–2011 she was employed by the Greek Ministry of Culture as an archaeological conservator in various land excavations. In 2011 she joined the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences at the University of Southampton and in 2016 she was awarded her PhD in non-destructive testing of waterlogged wood with ultrasound. Since 2015 she is the senior field conservator for the Lechaion Harbour Project (LHP), a joined project between the Greek Ministry of Culture and the University of Copenhagen, with a special focus on the conservation, preservation and in situ protection of the wooden structures. In summer 2018 she worked at the Jodrell Laboratory, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK, on the wood identification of waterlogged woods from underwater archaeological excavations in Greece, Bulgaria and the UK, as well as a research assistant for the lab. She is an active scuba diver since 2004 and has been participating in underwater excavations since 2008.
