Laura Juliana Osorio Iregui

For the past years I have been studying the material culture of South American indigenous communities, both prehispanic and contemporary. My current research evaluates the long term changes in the crafts of two indigenous communities in Colombia – the Wounaan and the Wayuu. By evaluating these historical changes in the craft’s materiality, my research seeks to expand existing knowledge of the direct effects that opposing discourses on heritage have on the material culture of Colombian indigenous communities.

I obtained my Masters degree in History of Art, Theory and Display at the University of Edinburgh in 2013 and hold Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Los Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia. My research interests include heritage, material culture, craft and cultural policy.
