The Viking Ship Museum

This summer is the last chance to see the incredible Viking ships before we close for rebuilding this fall. The grave ships from Oseberg, Gokstad and Tune are the three best-preserved Viking ships in the whole world.

The Viking Ship Museum closes for refurbishment this fall, and remains closed throughout the five-year construction period. Read about the plans for the new Viking Age Museum.

The Historical Museum

Our new exhibition has been ready since December 2020, and finally we can show you “Fabulous animals - from the Iron Age to the Vikings”. The Vikings and their ancestors looked upon animals with awe and admiration. Enter a world where the relationship with animals was completely different from today.

You can admire jewellery, weapons and objects from the Iron Age and Viking Age decorated with the Scandinavian animal ornamentation, an aesthetic that reflected people's beliefs and conceptual world.
