At VÍKINGR – Viking Age exhibition on you will be able to experience an exclusive selection of artefacts from the Norwegian Viking Age. The Vikings are known as being violent and ruthless warriors. However, they were also farmers, skilled craftsmen and traders.
When visiting this exhibition you will be able to see Norway’s largest hoard of Viking Age gold with its exceptional collection of treasures, large gold rings, Frankish gold jewellery, Arabic coins, colourful beads, Roman antiquities and an English ring. These treasures reflect the travels and contact network of the Vikings; from the Caliphate in the east to England in the west.
The exhibition also contains the exquisite golden spur which is the only one of its kind from Viking Age Scandinavia. It is covered with intricate gold fillagree patterns and soldered gold granules depicting Viking Age Borre-style animals and patterns. It was probably made by a Scandinavian goldsmith during the second half of the 10th century.
Travel back in time and out into the world at the Historical Museum, and become acquainted with interesting, rare artefacts and their stories.
