The exhibition Transformation – faith and sacred objects in the Middle Ages will enable you to see the old ceiling of Ål stave church at close quarters. This ceiling, which dates back to the 13th century, was saved when the stave church was demolished in 1880. The 23 motifs depict all the main stories from the Bible, ranging from the time when Adam and Eve walked naked and free in the Garden of Eden and until the death and resurrection of Jesus. It can be viewed at the Museum and is the only large-scale church decoration which has been preserved from the Norwegian Middle Ages.
