Gokstad in a new light
Art and archaeology meet in this exhibition which explores the people and the environment around the man in the Gokstad grave.
The Gokstad find
The Gokstad grave in Vestfold in Norway was excavated in 1880, but it has never been investigated using modern methods.
Gokstad revitalised is a research project that explores the potential for knowledge offered by the Gokstad find. Among other things the project has uncovered a previously unknown market place at Heimdalsjordet close to the Gokstad burial mound.
Still life photographs of the artefacts are used for effect in this exhibition. The motifs, expressiveness, colour combinations and lighting of the still life photographs give visitors the feeling of peering through a window into the past.
