The crowd at Bogd Khaan's coronation

Lay people were not invited to attend the coronation ceremony at the Yellow Temple and Nine Ger Palace. According to Mongolian writer G. Navaannjil, who was present at the coronation, people were waiting for hours in the cold. This photograph was most likely captured during the long wait. While waiting, Mamen saw the arrival of 100 white camels and 300 white horses, gifts from the Mongolian people to the Bogd. Mamen concluded: 'Thus ended 1911 and the first stage of the Mongolian revolution. Mongolia had at least thrown off the Chinese administration, appointed their own emperor, and China was out of the game for the time being'.
