Trap for hunting doves
(UEM12186) Rev. Bodding’s notes: 'The catch is carried out in the following way: The trap is covered with fresh leaves and placed on the pole. Underneath the trap a cage is located in which there is a lure (said always to be a male). In addition, another dove is placed on the crocked stick on the back end of the trap; here it is tied with the skin drawn over its eyes and fastened with the help of a thorn or similar, so that it cannot see. When the trapper comes to a place where he thinks there may be doves he rams the pole into the ground, arranges the trap and hides nearby. By the cooing of the lure other doves (said to be males) come to fight and to pose for the blinded dove. They sit on the sticks inside the trap and the lid closes down on them. The catch goes fast when one has a good lure.' Material: Wood, leather (skin), bamboo, vegetable fibre. Length: 38 cm, width: 30 cm.
