Research Interests
In my doctoral research, I will examine animal motifs in Nordic Bronze Age rock art by drawing on analogies from the study of animal behaviour, also known as ethology. By integrating ethology as an analytical tool, I explore how depictions of wild, domesticated, and mythological species reflect human–animal relationships and broader ontological frameworks. Moving beyond traditional mythological interpretations, this project seeks to bridge symbolic and functional approaches to animal imagery, demonstrating how encounters with animals shaped both the sacred and the profane dimensions of rock art.
