Upcoming exhibition at the Historical Museum: Mirror Kingdoms – Poland and Norway in the Middle Ages

Together with fellow researchers at the Universities of Warsaw and Oslo, we have examined similarities and differences between the two kingdoms on the edge of medieval Europe. This work has resulted in the exhibition Mirror Kingdoms – Poland and Norway in the Middle Ages.

Poland and Norway shared remarkable similarities in the Middle Ages, including the establishment of their first kings and Christianization around the year 1000. However, war and upheaval subsequently drove the kingdoms down remarkably different paths.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 (2019/34/H/HS3/00500).

Members of the project group: Anna Dryblak from the University of University of Warsaw, Ben Allport, Martin Hager-Saltnes, Eili Lindøe and Svein H. Gullbekk from the University of Oslo.

Project leadership: Grzegor Pac and Wojtek Jezierski from the University of Warsaw together with Hans Jacob Orning from the University of Oslo.
