"For classicists and archaeologists Arvid Andrén may be known primarily as a scholar who devoted his long life to the study of Etruscan architectural terracottas as well as Greek and Roman sculpture. His many other interests, however, are illustrated in the objects of his collection of antiquities and in his scholarly activities as an excavator, mentor, and writer on life in Italy and translator of ancient authors. While my colleague Laura Ambrosini will focus on presenting the artifacts in the Andrén collection, I will attempt to relate the collection to Andrén’s overall contributions to ancient studies for us to appreciate and enjoy today."
