Kulturhistorisk museums forskingsprosjekter utforsker temaer innen museets satsingsområder og er gjerne knyttet til en eller flere av museets forskergrupper.
Forskningsinfrastruktur: SciCult-KHM
SciCult-KHM – Science for Cultural Heritage – er en forskningsinfrastruktur ved museet som tilbyr analysefasiliteter til forskningssamarbeid internt og eksternt.
Referansesamling for steinalderteknologi
Eksperimentelt framstilte og kopierte gjenstander av stein som tilsvarer gjenstandsmateriale vi kan finne på steinalderboplasser i Norge.
Analyseutvalget
Analyseutvalget behandler søknader om analyse og prøvetaking av gjenstander og osteologisk materiale som ligger i Kulturhistorisk museums samlinger.

Associate Professor Roland Wittje will discuss his research in the history of science and technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
Can exhibitions be qualified as research-in-itself? If they can, then how? Which criteria should be the basis of evaluating and verify research exhibitions? The aim of the PhD course is to build a solid knowledge-base for understanding the relationship between exhibitions and research in the past and today, in order to collectively explore potentials and challenges for what can be called research-by-display.

Kulturhistorisk museum har åtte stipendiatar og kvart år blir det lyst ut to opne stipendiatstillingar innanfor museets satsingsområde, medan to av stillingane til ei kvar tid er reservert andre forskingsbehov som oppstår ved museet.
